On May 28, 2017, Fudan University and nine academic institutions from ASEAN countries signed the MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON CO-ESTABLISHING THE NETWORK OF ASEAN-CHINA ACADEMIC INSTITUTES, with the establishment of the Network of ASEAN-China Academic Institutes (NACAI). According to the operating mechanism of the MOU, the Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries of Fudan University (CCRNC-Fudan) shall be the permanent secretariat responsible for coordinating the NACAI activities.
Assistant to the President of Fudan University CHEN zhimin, Chancellor of University of the Philippines Diliman Michael Lim Tan, Pro-rector of University of Yangon Aung Kyaw, and Vice President of National University of Laos Phout Simmalavong gave the opening addresses during the signing ceremony.

The founding members of the NACAI include Institute of Asian Studies of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (Brunei Darussalam), Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Royal Academy of Cambodia (Cambodia), Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries of Fudan University (China), ASEAN Study Center of Universitas Indonesia (Indonesia), Asia Research Center of National University of Laos (Lao PDR), Institute of China Studies of University of Malaya (Malaysia), Department of International Relations of University of Yangon (Myanmar), Asian Center of University of the Philippines, Diliman (Philippines), ASEAN Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), and Institute for Southeast Asian Studies of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (Vietnam).
Assistant to the President of Fudan University CHEN zhimin gives opening address
With the purpose of encouraging joint research on the issues related to ASEAN-China relations, the NACAI will promote studies on ASEAN-China relations as a provider of intellectual support for the comprehensive development of ASEAN-China relations, and enhance collaborative innovation among the Participants as a platform of academic exchange and cooperation. Besides organizing annual international conference, the NACAI will launch academic exchange programs, joint research project, joint academic publication and so on.
Prof. WU Xinbo, Executive Dean of Institute of International Studies, Fudan University, was in charge of the signing ceremony. During this signing ceremony, Prof. SHI Yuanhua, the Director of the CCRNC-Fudan, announced that the 2017 NACAI Young Visiting Scholars Project has started up in this conference. This two-month project will sponsor three youth scholars from ASEAN countries to do research at Fudan University. Associate Professor QI Huaigao, the Deputy Director of the CCRNC-Fudan, gave an introduction on the preparation process of the NACAI and looked forward to its development.

As a session of Shanghai Forum 2017, the conference on ASEAN-China Relations in Transition: Differences Management and Win-win Cooperation was held after the MOU signing ceremony, which was co-organized by CCRNC-Fudan, the NACAI and Asia Research Center of Fudan University and attended by 26 distinguished scholars from China and 10 ASEAN countries.
