Unlike choir competitions held either for students or faculty in the past, this competition brought as many teachers as students together. Each team sang about their aspirations and wishes for the country with passion.

The theatre was filled with melodious tunes extolling the beautiful landscape of China, eulogized unyielding Chinese soldiers and cheered for a better life.

Among the contestants was 82-year-old CAS academician Li Daqian from the School of Mathematical Sciences, who sang about his love for the motherland. “It is a song dedicated to our country, which expresses our heartfelt love. It is a song that echoes the aspiration pursued by our predecessors and us for so long.”

Mao Zuohua, Chair of the Labor Union of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, said: “So many teachers and students took an active part in this competition. We’ve been practicing really hard to deliver the best performance that we can.”

Wu Yufei, Chief Student Affairs Officer of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, said: “It is an unforgettable experience for me. We’ve made time to attend the rehearsals. After this, we’ve been brought closer to each other.”
