Fudan shares COVID-19 knowledge with US peers online

Fudan-Texas health professionals join hands to fight the long battle against COVID-19 at Shanghai-Texas Symposium on COVID-19.

Professor Wu Fan, Associate Dean of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University and Professor Zhang Wenhong, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University and head of Shanghai’s COVID-19 expert team attended the Shanghai-Texas Symposium on COVID-19, a video conference, on April 15 to share their experience in fighting COVID-19 with their counterparts in Texas, U.S.

At the two-hour conference, Professor Wu briefed on Shanghai’s response to COVID-19 which featured “multi-authority cooperation, society-wide efforts, risk-differentiated measures and science-driven policymaking”. Professor Zhang provided information on the country’s overall strategy which includes detection of suspected cases, epidemiological investigation and construction of shelter hospitals. He summarized the strategy as “test, trace and admit all suspected cases”. Zhang stressed that the world still had a long way to go before prevailing over COVID-19. “This is not even the beginning of the end, but the beginning of the beginning (of the battle), ”he said.

The health professionals from Texas thanked the Shanghai municipal government for holding this video conference as COVID-19 hit critical moment in the U.S. Commending on the medical insights of the Chinese experts, they believed all countries should share their findings about the virus to facilitate the global recovery from COVID-19.
