On December 22, the unveiling ceremony of the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University and Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Intelligent Optoelectronics and Perception was successfully held at Fudan International Academic Exchange Center.
As one of the traditional predominant disciplines at Fudan University, optoelectronics, together with its related artificial intelligence and quantum techniques, lays the foundation of national developments, thereby accelerating the future international competitiveness of our country.
To become a world's leading university, Fudan always envisions to establish leading and innovative research institutes for the frontier of optoelectronics and related fields. In January this year, the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University was initiated by Chu Junhao, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Another institute, Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Intelligent Optoelectronics and Perception, was founded at the same time on the basis of the aforementioned institute in the associated fields.
Jin Li, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Fudan University, pointed out that Fudan University has devoted great efforts to make progress in the integration and development of multidisciplinary fields in the frontier of science and technology, following the instructions of the 13th Five-Year Plan and the national strategic needs. A number of research institutes specialized in science, technology and medicine have been established respectively, thus playing a critical role in Fudan’s action to facilitate transformative and multidisciplinary researches that makes it a leading global university.
The institute aims to make significant contributions to the following fields: multi-field coupling experiments and theories, advanced optoelectronic materials and devices, and application of intelligent electronic devices and systems. Of particular importance, significant progress has been made within these outline technology fields during the year of 2021.
Jin hopes the institute will lead the development of fundamental optoelectronic researches and their practical applications, and make remarkable progress in the core technologies in accordance with the national and social demands. The institute will operate with an open academic environment, aiming at attracting and cultivating outstanding talents in the fields of optoelectronics and related disciplines.
Huang Hong, deputy director of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, spoke highly of Fudan University’s efforts in building platforms for innovative optoelectronics research. She noted that Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission will fully support the prospective studies in advanced optoelectronic technology by integrating the superior research forces, with maximum efforts. She hopes the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University will fully leverage its research advantages to motivate the development of both the fundamental theories and advanced technologies in the field of optoelectronics, which will make Shanghai an influential international center of science and innovation.
Li Ruxin, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of academic committee and director of Zhangjiang Laboratory of Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Intelligent Optoelectronics and Perception, stressed that the establishment of the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University and Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Intelligent Optoelectronics and Perception is a powerful initiative. He expected that the collaborations at the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University will contribute to China’s indigenous innovation in advanced optoelectronic technologies.
Chu Junhao, as president of Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University, made an introduction to the research directions, objectives and research achievements of the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University and Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Intelligent Optoelectronics and Perception.
Jin Li and Xu Ningsheng, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, unveiled the plaque for the Institute of Optoelectronics of Fudan University.
Li Ruxin and Li Wei, inspector of Shanghai Education and Health Party Committee, unveiled the plaque for Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Intelligent Optoelectronics and Perception.
Mao Junfa, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wang Jianyu, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Wang Yuanyuan, vice president of Fudan University, also attended the ceremony. Xu Lei, vice president of Fudan University, presided over the ceremony.
