At the 2022 ISSF World Championships for Rifle and Pistol taking place in Cairo, Egypt, Zhang Yu, freshman from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Fudan University and member of Fudan’s shooting team, won the women’s 10m air rifle team championship with her teammates, Huang Yuting and Wang Zhilin, defeating the U.S. team 16-12 in the final to take home the title on October 16. It had been 20 years since China took its last team gold in this event. This honor also marks China’s 10th gold medal in this year’s World Championships.
On October 17, Zhang won the bronze medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team competition, an Olympic event, with her partner Sheng Lihao.
Also, in the previous women’s 10m air rifle individual final, Zhang won the bronze medal with a score of 260.1 rings.
Xiao Jiaruixuan at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
Xiao Jiaruixuan, another member of Fudan’sshooting team and bronze medalist in the women’s 25m pistol final of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will later compete in women’s 25m pistol individual and team competitions during October 21-23.
It’s the third time that Fudan students have won world shooting championships, after Wang Xiaoyu and Mai Jiajie took gold in pistol events in 2018 and 2015 respectively.
