On April 26, President of Fudan University JIN Li met with Chief Executive of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Thomas Schneider, sharing insights on further cooperation.
Schneider expressed his pleasure of revisiting Fudan University. He observed that since becoming a member of APRU in 1997, Fudan has been playing an active role in the association. In recent years, APRU has achieved significant research output, with Chinese universities contributing a lot to it. APRU is actively committed to nurturing young talents. With over 2 million student members worldwide, APRU conducts a variety of activities and projects to guide young students to focus on major issues such as food security, public health, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and cultural diversity, assisting youth to explore and address common challenges faced by the world and enhances their ability to solve complex problems. Schneider hopes to continue deepening cooperation with Fudan University and explore more collaborative opportunities to expand APRU’s international influence.
JIN said, Fudan places great importance on global engagement and is committed to deliver for the public good through excellence in education, research and collaboration with our partners. Fudan has a long history of cooperation with APRU. As an international cooperative network, APRU provides opportunities for universities worldwide to interact, making itself a significant partner for Fudan. In recent years, Fudan has been actively engaged in APRUs international education programs such as ULP (Undergraduate Leaders’ Program) and VSE (Virtual Student Exchange Program) annually. Many Fudan faculties and scholars have also been involved in the alliance's research networks, achieving fruitful results. Fudan is now promoting new paradigms in scientific research, such as AI for science and AI for social science, focusing on major issues like artificial intelligence, sustainable development and aging populations, and establishing relevant research institutions. Jin hoped to strengthen cooperation and exchange with APRU in aforementioned areas.
APRU is a consortium of top research universities from the Pacific Rim region, established in 1997 with the aim of promoting cooperation among the Pacific Rim economies in science, education, and culture. The association now has 60 member universities, including world-renowned institutions from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, etc.
