Diversity, adventure, diligence…What’s your keyword for the new semester? For our incoming students, the life ahead is just like a blank space waiting to be filled with different answers. What’s more can they find in Fudan not just as a campus, but more importantly, as a new platform to achieve life pursuits? Here, we have some of the incoming “Fudaners” talking about their keywords and ideal university life in Fudan.
Key Word: Communication
Shannon Mo's Chinese name, 宝珠, is a fitting moniker for this warm and lovely girl, symbolizing a precious pearl. If there's a keyword for Shannon, it would be “communication”. As a freshman in the Chinese language program at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, she embarks on a new journey in Shanghai with the aspiration to converse more fluently with her family members who have deep connections to China.
“I aspire to chat with my Chinese relatives back home and connect with Chinese people worldwide,” Shannon shares her story. For her, Chinese isn’t merely a subject or a language—it's a vital link to her family and a bridge to Shanghai, an intriguing and enchanting city for her. She admits being completely smitten by Shanghai and is determined to fully immerse herself in its wonders over the next year.
Key Word: Richness
Lukas Raymann, a German exchange student from Humboldt-University of Berlin, is currently enrolled in courses at Fudan’s School of Management. For him, Fudan is a “really cool” place to be. What draws him to Fudan is not just the vibrant and engaging classroom atmosphere that boosts his learning efficiency, but also the abundance of enjoyable activities on and around campus. So far, he has explored a lot, both within and beyond the campus grounds, and he's eager to experience even more in the future.
Like many of his Chinese peers, Lukas is thrilled at the prospect of sampling the diverse array of dishes available in Fudan’s cafeterias. “It’s great to have a canteen just a stone’s throw away from my dorm,” he remarks. Moreover, he expresses his delight in bonding with his new classmates in China and enjoying free sports like tennis on campus. With such a wealth of activities at his fingertips, Lukas’s experience as a Fudaner promises to be anything but dull.

Uno Reika，a Japanese freshman at Fudan's School of Journalism, secured her role as a liaison between international students and the School of Journalism at the inaugural meeting for newcomers. Her fluency in Chinese, self-assuredness, and eagerness to serve her peers were key factors in her winning the position. When questioned about her decision to apply, Reika mentioned that the appeal of cultural diversity, which she cherished in her school back in Japan, is something she continues to seek and experience in her university life. This is the driving force behind her decision to join Fudan University.
“‘International’ might be my keyword, and I hope I can get in tunes with people from all walks of life in the future as a journalist.” As a Journalism major, Reika has set her sights on the field of international communications. She aspires to broaden her perspectives and spark creativity by engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
