Shanghai presented its annual Magnolia Silver Award to 50 outstanding foreigners from 18 countries on November 23, recognizing their significant contributions to the city's development and international exchanges. Mikhail Korobkov, a professor at Fudan’s School of Mathematical Sciences, was honored with this award.
Professor Mikhail Korobkov joined Fudan University in 2017 as a full-time professor at the School of Mathematical Sciences. His main research focus is on Analysis and Partial Differential Equations. His work on the Morse-Sard type theorem for Sobolev mappings in critical cases and the Leray problem for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations is of great significance and notably impacts international research in this field. So far, he has published 55 papers, including in the world's top mathematics journals such as Annals of Mathematics, etc. His research topics also have great practical significance, closely related to technological breakthroughs in ships, submarines, and aircraft.
As a top expert in the field of partial differential equations, Professor Korobkov has promoted talent training and international exchanges in the discipline. He annually offers a Lecture course on partial differential equations in fluid mechanics, introducing cutting-edge results and an international perspective into the classroom. He is concerned with the academic development needs of students, encourages top students to engage in cutting-edge scientific research issues, and drives students to conduct international academic exchanges.
As an important member of the Fudan partial differential equations team, Professor Korobkov has brought the voice of Shanghai and Fudan to the international stage. His team has established cooperative platforms and connections with renowned foreign research institutions and universities such as Princeton University, University of Naples, Oxford University, and Vilnius University, greatly promoting Sino-foreign exchange and cooperation in the discipline and the ability to achieve world-class scientific research results. This strengthens the position of Fudan in Shanghai as one of the world's scientific centers with international fame and recognition.
Shanghai began awarding the Magnolia Silver Award to expats in 1989, later introducing the Magnolia Gold Award and Honorary Citizenship in 1992 and 1997, respectively. Over the past 35 years, 1,877 foreigners have received these honors, underscoring the city’s appreciation for their contributions.
