China's first Fact-Checking Community spearheaded by professional media outlets was inaugurated at the International Fact-Checking Partner Summit, a collaborative endeavor between The Paper, a leading online news platform in China, and Institute of Global Communication and Media Studies at Fudan University, held today on December 12.
The Paperhas united with journalism schools from Fudan University, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University, and Shanghai International Studies University, along with the prominent web portal IFENG.COM, to inaugurate the Fact-Checking Community, which sets its sights on bolstering societal media literacy.
Amidst the information explosion and AI boom, fact-checking is emerging as a critical internet infrastructure. The Fact-Checking Community is committed to enhancing cross-boundary and interdisciplinary fact-checking efforts and to integrating a wealth of resources from academia, industry, and digital platforms. This collaborative endeavor aims to bolster the veracity of information dissemination and to reinvigorate media credibility, all in the pursuit of cultivating a more transparent and reliable information landscape.
Since its inception in September 2021, The Paper Fact-Check (FactPaper), a global fact-checking initiative launched by The Paper, has been dedicated to the development of a more comprehensive, globally-minded, and professionally-driven fact-checking initiative. It has introduced an open, bilingual Chinese-English platform (www.factpaper.cn), which encourages individuals to initiate inquiries and conduct their own independent verifications.
